My Callling – Because this is what I’m made of

Your calling is waiting for you - run

I believe we all have a calling. Something we are meant to do. Something greater than just going about our days feeling something is missing but not knowing what. I believe we all have a special something that were placed in us to make the world better for someone else.

A personal story

When I was a child there were many times when I should have been afraid. When I should have cried or just accepted the situation.
I did not. I don’t remember crying, I remember surviving.

I may have cried occasionally, mostly because I fell off my bicycle when trying to learn how to ride. I fell off because I couldn’t balance properly– I needed glasses and a few surgeries to correct my eyesight.

Instead I resisted the pain. I refused to be told what to do, to accept the situation.

Instead of being told what to do and accept it I planned and ran away. Literally.
You see I spent some time at a orphanage, twice. And the second time I did everything that I could to escape. I didn’t know what to do after I had escaped but the important thing was to escape. I planned it all strategically. And I even succeeded a few times, until they found me that is.

When I think of that little 7 year old girl who wasn’t afraid of anything one word comes to me: COURAGE.

It takes courage to go on, to fight back. To rise again after we hit the ground. And believe me I’ve been there many times.

And that is what it takes to follow your calling. Courage to go on when the mean voice inside of you start talking you out of it. And you have it too. Believe me it is there, right inside of you. Just take a step forward and you will see.

Or what about the time when I decided to move across the world to a country I hardly knew the capital of? Was I afraid? No, because I knew that I’d be alright.

The above is just a tiny fraction of what life has given me. But I believe that because of all the set backs I am who I am today.

Understanding your calling

Your calling is that thing that keeps coming back to you. That gives you those happy fuzzy feelings, that excites you. That you gladly do without asking for a thing back. That you do so naturally without even thinking of it. We all have a calling. It lies there inside of us and just waits for us to open the box a little so it can come out. Each time we open the magic box a ray of light quickly finds it way to our hearts. It desperately wants to break out.

But sometimes our calling can make us afraid. Resistance start haunting us. Fear speak up. And even though we have no problem jumping off a cliff, approaching our calling paralyzes us.

Because we so badly want to use our calling. Even if we aren’t sure of what exactly it is or how to use it fully.

C O U R A G E

Look inside of yourself. Take a moment and close your eyes and think about what you enjoy the most in life. What is it that makes you feel happy, refreshed, lighthearted?

How are you serving others with your calling?

Don’t be afraid. Run.

The below song is a remix of Nause’s song Made of, even though it is a bit repetitive I get a lot of energy listening to it. It’s sung by Swedish singer Amanda Fondell, a girl with a special voice.

My Calling

I am a carer. I am a helper. I care for and help people. I love it. It’s what makes me happy. I see possibilities in people. I encourage them to go after what they dream about. I love being their greatest supporter who cheers on them.

But I do it all with love and logic. I tell it to you straight, I don’t cheer on things I don’t believe in. Sometimes I wish I could tell a lie but truth is I simply suck at it, I could’t lie to save my own life I think. Honesty haunts me all the time.

My calling comes in different shapes and forms. Graphic design, coaching, web design, planning. But they all connect with my calling – to help people make the most of themselves. To not be afraid of their calling.

I love it when I talk to someone and can help them see clear and gain clarity of what they are meant to do. How they are special and how to pursuit their passions and callings. When I can help them take one tiny step forward.

The questions I often want to ask is: How does that make you feel?

But I don’t always ask, because the person is not ready to answer.

It frustrates me deeply when I cannot get through to the person I am talking to. When the barricade is too strong and high and they are so low down they have shut off.

But I continue.
I continue to encourage, to lend a hand, to be there, to motivate. Again and again and again…

Because that is my calling.

Have you found your calling? Are you using it or resisting?

How does it make you feel? Tell me below.

  1. Hi Linda,

Loved the song with Amanda Fondell.

Aside from that yes… I’ve spent many, many years of trying to figure out what I want to do, and just recently a few years ago, I discovered it. Once you find your calling it is so well worth it!

*comments not working for some reason* I’m glad you have found your calling Nate it takes some soul searching – use it well.

  2. Oh, boy. What a day to have found this blog post. To be honest with you, I feel quite lost these days and don’t know what my calling is anymore. I think I need to run away, go to a place within, and stay there until the answers emerge. Thanks for writing this. I appreciate your thoughts and where you’re coming from. Peace. 😉

Jeanne, even if we find our calling we will have times when we feel totally lost. May I recommend that you read “My Unique Talents” and the “Business Success Planner” that may help steer you towards the right path. You will find them here/ They’ve helped many entrepreneurs to come closer to their calling. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I’ve found it takes stillness rather than push push pushing to find what I was called to do. But finding your thing is sensational. A lot of work to have the guts to do it. A lot of perseverance when you fail and have to refocus. But sensational. Especially when someone else recognises it in you and confirms that you’re on the right path.

I remember getting my first testimonial and realising the value of the work I do. It’s not “just” editing. It’s helping people tell their stories and get their messages out into the world. It’s important not just to find what you’re meant to do, but also to share it. People need you and your talents more than you know!

Exactly Kris – we need to share what it is we do best because someone is out there waiting for it! Being still is essential I think, removing yourself from the busy world and digging a bit deeper. Having someone else help you discover your calling and see clearly will help a lot.

  4. Thanks for sharing your story. And thanks for reminding me to do what I am called to. I have been struggling with a decision (out of business) these few days. And you’re right – if it doesn’t excite me, or make me happy when I think about it, it probably isn’t the best decision to make.

    xx

Yes, living your calling is what it is all about Kara-Anne. It needs to excite you and make you feel hat you are on the right path.To wake up in the morning and feel a relief instead of worry. I hope you continue to follow your calling – someone is waiting for you…
